When you connect a domain, C Building first looks at where the domain's DNS is, that is, its nameservers. You add the records wherever the DNS is, which isn't necessarily where you bought the domain. For example, a domain bought at Wix with its DNS on Cloudflare gets its records at Cloudflare.
The records to add (type, name, value) are the ones listed on the card when you connect the domain, so this guide gives no fixed values. Use the record types exactly as the card shows them; if a name already has an old A or CNAME record, Wix has you add the card's record first and then delete the old one, as the steps show.
When this guide applies
Only when the domain's nameservers are Wix's DNS (nsX.wixdns.net, for example ns0.wixdns.net and ns1.wixdns.net). If the domain is connected to Wix by pointing and its nameservers belong to another company, add the records there.
Adding the records at Wix
- Go to "Domains" in your Wix account.
- Select the "Domain Actions" icon next to your domain and choose "Manage DNS Records".
- For each record on the card, select "+ Add Record" in the matching section ("A (Host)", "CNAME (Aliases)" or "TXT (Text)"). If a pop-up appears, select "Got it".
- Enter its name in "Host Name" (leave it empty where the card shows "@", type "www" for www) and its value in "Value", then select "Save" (and "Save Changes" if a pop-up asks).
- Once the new records are added, delete the old A and CNAME records for the names on the card: select the "Domain Actions" icon next to each and choose "Delete". Leave records for other names as they are.
Good to know
- Delete the old A and CNAME records for the card's names after adding the new ones, or the old and new records will conflict.
- Wix uses an empty "Host Name" for the domain itself (@).
How long it takes
It can take up to 48 hours; until then some visitors may still see the old site.
