Connect your domain to C Building: add DNS records at Shinjiru

The short version

If your domain's nameservers are Shinjiru's hawkdns.net, ipnames.net or ipnama.net, log in to the Shinjiru Client Area, go to "Domains" → "Manage DNS" and select the pencil icon. Edit or delete old records with the same names, then add the card's records with "TTL" set to 1800, writing "Name" the same way as your existing records.

When you connect a domain, C Building first looks at where the domain's DNS is, that is, its nameservers. You add the records wherever the DNS is, which isn't necessarily where you bought the domain. For example, a domain bought at Shinjiru with its DNS on Cloudflare gets its records at Cloudflare.

The records to add (type, name, value) are the ones listed on the card when you connect the domain, so this guide gives no fixed values. Use the record types exactly as the card shows them; if a name already has an old record, edit or delete it first, then add what the card lists.

When this guide applies

Only when the domain's nameservers are ns1.hawkdns.net and ns2.hawkdns.net, or ns1/ns2.ipnames.net or ns1/ns2.ipnama.net (Shinjiru's DNS Management service). If they belong to another company, add the records there.

Adding the records at Shinjiru

  1. Log in to the Shinjiru Client Area at billing.shinjiru.com.my.
  2. Select "Domains" → "Manage DNS".
  3. Select the pencil icon to edit your domain's DNS zone.
  4. If a name on the card (for example @ or www) already has an old record, edit or delete it instead of adding a second record with the same name.
  5. For each record on the card, set its "Type", enter its "Name", set "TTL" to 1800, enter its value ("Address" for A records), and save.

Things to know

  • Write "Name" the same way as your existing records, usually the full name ending in a dot. Shinjiru's guide lists a Name without a dot as a common mistake.

How long it takes

Shinjiru's guide doesn't say how long changes take.

Once the records are in, C Building checks them automatically. There's no need to come back and let us know.

Want C Building to manage your DNS? Change the nameservers

Only do this if you decide to let C Building manage your DNS; if you add the records at Shinjiru as above, you don't need to change the nameservers. Once you change them, all of the domain's DNS records are managed at C Building, and the nameservers are ns1.cbuilding.net, ns2.cbuilding.net, ns3.cbuilding.net and ns4.cbuilding.net (use the ones on the card).

Before you change them: if the domain has email, its mail records (such as MX and TXT) must be moved to C Building too, or mail may stop arriving. See Before you change nameservers: email and DNSSEC.

  1. Log in to the Shinjiru Client Area at billing.shinjiru.com.my.
  2. Select "Domains", then your domain.
  3. Select "Nameservers".
  4. Tick "Use Custom Nameserver", enter the nameservers on the card (ns1.cbuilding.net to ns4.cbuilding.net), and select "Change Nameserver".
  5. Select "Update Nameserver".

This works only for domains Shinjiru registers through Ilovewww, Netim or Webnic. Otherwise (including some country-code domains), open a ticket at 247livesupport.biz and ask Shinjiru to do it.

Once they're changed, C Building checks automatically as well.
