Connect your domain to C Building: add DNS records at P.A Việt Nam

The short version

If your domain's nameservers are *.pavietnam.vn (or *.dotvndns.vn), sign in at access.pavietnam.vn with your domain name and domain password, add the card's records under "CẤU HÌNH" (Configuration) and select "Lưu cấu hình" (Save configuration). Change or delete any old A record or redirect on @ first.

When you connect a domain, C Building first looks at where the domain's DNS is, that is, its nameservers. You add the records wherever the DNS is, which isn't necessarily where you bought the domain. For example, a domain bought at P.A Việt Nam with its DNS on Cloudflare gets its records at Cloudflare (see add DNS records at Cloudflare).

The records to add (type, name, value) are the ones listed on the card when you connect the domain, so this guide gives no fixed values. Use the record types exactly as the card shows them; if a name already has an old record, edit or delete it first, then add what the card lists.

When this guide applies

Only when the domain's nameservers belong to P.A Việt Nam, for example ns1.pavietnam.vn, ns2.pavietnam.vn and nsbak.pavietnam.net, or P.A's other set ns1.dotvndns.vn, ns2.dotvndns.vn and nsbak.dotvndns.com.

If the nameservers belong to another company, records added at P.A have no effect: add them where those nameservers are managed.

Adding the records at P.A Việt Nam

  1. Go to access.pavietnam.vn and sign in with your domain name and the domain password P.A sent you. You can also sign in at support.pavietnam.vn, go to "Dịch vụ" (Services) → "Đang sử dụng" (In use), select "…" next to the domain and choose "Quản lý" (Manage).
  2. Open "CẤU HÌNH" (Configuration) to see the domain's current records.
  3. For each record on the card, choose its "Record Type" as the card shows and enter its "Host record" and "Address" (the value).
  4. Select "Lưu cấu hình" (Save configuration).

Good to know

  • If a host on the card (for example @) already has an old A record or a URL Redirect, change or delete it so only the card's value remains.
  • Records here only work while the domain uses P.A's nameservers; if the nameservers are elsewhere, changes here have no effect.

How long it takes

P.A's help pages don't say how long new records take.

Once the records are in, C Building checks them automatically. There's no need to come back and let us know.

Want C Building to manage your DNS? Change the nameservers

You don't have to do this: adding the records above is enough to connect the domain. Only if you want C Building to manage the domain's whole DNS do you change the nameservers at P.A Việt Nam to ns1.cbuilding.net, ns2.cbuilding.net, ns3.cbuilding.net and ns4.cbuilding.net (as listed on the card).

Before you do: once the nameservers change, every record kept at P.A Việt Nam stops working, including the MX and TXT records your e-mail needs. Move the e-mail records to C Building as well, or mail may stop arriving. See Before you change nameservers: email records, DNSSEC and registrar extras first.

  1. Go to access.pavietnam.vn and sign in with your domain name and domain password.
  2. Open "THAY ĐỔI DNS" (Change DNS).
  3. Replace the current nameservers with the ones on the C Building card.
  4. Select "LƯU CẤU HÌNH" (Save configuration).

For a .vn domain the form may also ask for each nameserver's IP address: ns1.cbuilding.net 205.251.196.82, ns2.cbuilding.net 205.251.193.12, ns3.cbuilding.net 205.251.194.225, ns4.cbuilding.net 205.251.198.20.

Records kept at P.A stop working after the change. It takes about 24 hours.

Control panels change from time to time; if a button is worded slightly differently, go by what you see on screen.
