Guide / C BUILDING JOURNAL

Connect your domain to C Building: add DNS records at iNET

The short version

If your domain's nameservers are ns1/ns2.inet.vn, sign in at portal.inet.vn, open "Tên miền" (Domains), tick the domain and select "Bản ghi" (Records). Enter the card's "Tên bản ghi" (name), "Loại" (type) and "Giá trị" (value), then select "Lưu" (Save). Change existing records instead of adding duplicates. Takes effect within 30 minutes.

When you connect a domain, C Building first looks at where the domain's DNS is, that is, its nameservers. You add the records wherever the DNS is, which isn't necessarily where you bought the domain. For example, a domain bought at iNET with its DNS on Cloudflare gets its records at Cloudflare (see add DNS records at Cloudflare).

The records to add (type, name, value) are the ones listed on the card when you connect the domain, so this guide gives no fixed values. Use the record types exactly as the card shows them; if a name already has an old record, edit or delete it first, then add what the card lists.

When this guide applies

Only when the domain's nameservers are iNET's *.inet.vn, usually ns1.inet.vn and ns2.inet.vn (some domains also have ns3.inet.vn).

If the nameservers belong to another company, records added at iNET have no effect: add them where those nameservers are managed.

Adding the records at iNET

  1. Sign in at portal.inet.vn with your iNET account.
  2. Open "Tên miền" (Domains), tick your domain and select "Bản ghi" (Records).
  3. For each record on the card, enter "Tên bản ghi" (Record name), choose "Loại" (Type) as the card shows and enter "Giá trị" (Value).
  4. Select "Lưu" (Save).

Good to know

  • If a host on the card (for example @ or www) already has an old record, change it instead of adding a second one.

How long it takes

iNET says records take effect within 30 minutes.

Once the records are in, C Building checks them automatically. There's no need to come back and let us know.

Want C Building to manage your DNS? Change the nameservers

You don't have to do this: adding the records above is enough to connect the domain. Only if you want C Building to manage the domain's whole DNS do you change the nameservers at iNET to ns1.cbuilding.net, ns2.cbuilding.net, ns3.cbuilding.net and ns4.cbuilding.net (as listed on the card).

Before you do: once the nameservers change, every record kept at iNET stops working, including the MX and TXT records your e-mail needs. Move the e-mail records to C Building as well, or mail may stop arriving. See Before you change nameservers: email records, DNSSEC and registrar extras first.

  1. Sign in at portal.inet.vn.
  2. Open "Tên miền" (Domains).
  3. Select the three dots next to your domain and choose "Cập nhật DNS" (Update DNS).
  4. Replace ns1.inet.vn and ns2.inet.vn with the nameservers on the C Building card; select "Thêm" (Add) for the third and fourth.
  5. Select "Lưu" (Save).

Records edited at iNET stop working after the change. It can take up to 72 hours to take effect everywhere.
