Connect your domain to C Building: add DNS records at Hostinger

The short version

If your domain's nameservers are *.dns-parking.com, go to hPanel's "Domains" → "DNS / Nameservers" → "Manage DNS Records", tick the old records of the hosts on the card and select "Delete selected", then add each record on the card with "Add Record". Turn off Hostinger CDN before adding the A record for "@". It can take up to 24 hours.

When you connect a domain, C Building first looks at where the domain's DNS is, that is, its nameservers. You add the records wherever the DNS is, which isn't necessarily where you bought the domain. For example, a domain bought at Hostinger with its DNS on Cloudflare gets its records at Cloudflare.

The records to add (type, name, value) are the ones listed on the card when you connect the domain, so this guide gives no fixed values. Use the record types exactly as the card shows them; if a name already has an old record, edit or delete it first, then add what the card lists.

When this guide applies

Only when the domain's nameservers are *.dns-parking.com, such as ns1.dns-parking.com and ns2.dns-parking.com (Hostinger's DNS). If they belong to another company, add the records there.

Hostinger's DNS page opens even when the domain doesn't use these nameservers, but changes made there then have no effect.

Adding the records at Hostinger

  1. Sign in to hPanel, select "Domains", choose your domain and open "DNS / Nameservers".
  2. Find "Manage DNS Records".
  3. Delete the old entries of the hosts on the card first: tick their records (for example the A records for "@", and the CNAME record for "www" when the card has "www"), select "Delete selected" and confirm. Leave records for other hosts as they are.
  4. For each record on the card, choose its "Type" as the card shows, enter the card's name in "Name" ("@" for the domain itself, "www" for www), put its value in "Points to" (A), "Target" (CNAME) or "TXT value" (TXT), and select "Add Record".

Things to know

  • Turn off Hostinger CDN before adding an A record for "@".
  • Remove old A and AAAA records only on the hosts on the card. If the card has a "www" record, delete the existing www CNAME first.
  • Don't delete e-mail records (MX, and TXT records such as SPF), or the domain's mailboxes may stop receiving mail.
  • If the domain and the hosting plan are in different Hostinger accounts, the DNS tools aren't available.
  • If the domain is on a Hostinger hosting plan, you can also add the records from "Websites": select your site, then "Advanced" → "DNS Zone Editor".

How long it takes

Usually a few hours, at most 24 hours.

These steps follow Hostinger's help center: using the DNS Zone Editor, managing A records.

Once the records are in, C Building checks them automatically. There's no need to come back and let us know.

Want C Building to manage your DNS? Change the nameservers

If you'd rather not add records yourself, C Building can manage the domain's DNS instead: choose that on the card when you connect the domain, then change the domain's nameservers to ns1.cbuilding.net, ns2.cbuilding.net, ns3.cbuilding.net and ns4.cbuilding.net. After that there are no records to add; the website connects by itself. Only do this if you choose to.

Nameservers are changed where the domain is registered. The steps below are for a domain registered at Hostinger; if it is registered somewhere else, change them there.

Move your e-mail records first: After the change, Hostinger no longer manages the domain's DNS, including e-mail records, and every later DNS change is made at the new place. If the domain receives e-mail, read Before changing nameservers: e-mail records and DNSSEC first.

  1. Sign in to hPanel, select "DNS" on the left and choose your domain.
  2. Open the "DNS / Nameservers" tab and select "Change Nameservers".
  3. Choose "Change nameservers" instead of "Use Hostinger nameservers".
  4. Enter ns1.cbuilding.net, ns2.cbuilding.net, ns3.cbuilding.net and ns4.cbuilding.net, one per box.
  5. Select "Save".

It usually takes a few hours, at most 24 hours; the website may be briefly unavailable in that time.

These steps follow Hostinger's help center: changing nameservers.
