Connect your domain to C Building: add DNS records at Exabytes

The short version

If your domain's nameservers are ns184, ns185 and ns186.mschosting.com, log in to your Exabytes account, go to "Domains" → "Manage DNS", add the card's records with "Add Record" and select "Confirm" after each, and remove old A or CNAME records on the same names that point elsewhere. Changes take about 3 to 4 hours.

When you connect a domain, C Building first looks at where the domain's DNS is, that is, its nameservers. You add the records wherever the DNS is, which isn't necessarily where you bought the domain. For example, a domain bought at Exabytes with its DNS on Cloudflare gets its records at Cloudflare.

The records to add (type, name, value) are the ones listed on the card when you connect the domain, so this guide gives no fixed values. Use the record types exactly as the card shows them; if a name already has an old record, edit or delete it first, then add what the card lists.

When this guide applies

Only when the domain's nameservers are ns184.mschosting.com, ns185.mschosting.com and ns186.mschosting.com (Exabytes Malaysia's free DNS). If they belong to another company, add the records there. If the domain uses the nameservers of an Exabytes hosting plan (cPanel), its records are set in cPanel, and this guide doesn't apply.

Adding the records at Exabytes

  1. Log in to your Exabytes billing account at billing.exabytes.my.
  2. Go to "Domains" → "Manage DNS".
  3. If your domain is not listed, select "Add DNS Zone", choose the domain under "Related Item", and select "Confirm".
  4. For each record on the card, select "Add Record" (or "Edit" on a record that's already there): choose its type, and enter its host and value.
  5. Select "Confirm" after each record.

Things to know

  • If a host name on the card (for example @ or www) has an old A or CNAME record that points somewhere else, delete it.

How long it takes

Exabytes says DNS changes take about 3 to 4 hours.

Once the records are in, C Building checks them automatically. There's no need to come back and let us know.

Want C Building to manage your DNS? Change the nameservers

Only do this if you decide to let C Building manage your DNS; if you add the records at Exabytes as above, you don't need to change the nameservers. Once you change them, all of the domain's DNS records are managed at C Building, and the nameservers are ns1.cbuilding.net, ns2.cbuilding.net, ns3.cbuilding.net and ns4.cbuilding.net (use the ones on the card).

Before you change them: if the domain has email, its mail records (such as MX and TXT) must be moved to C Building too, or mail may stop arriving. See Before you change nameservers: email and DNSSEC.

  1. Log in to your Exabytes billing account.
  2. Select "Domains" → "My Domains".
  3. Select the three dots next to your domain and choose "Manage Nameservers".
  4. Choose "Use custom nameservers (enter below)" and enter the nameservers on the card (ns1.cbuilding.net to ns4.cbuilding.net).
  5. Select "Change Nameservers".

For a .my domain, changing the nameservers means you accept the MYNIC policy.

If the change doesn't work, write to [email protected].

Once they're changed, C Building checks automatically as well.
