When you connect a domain, C Building first looks at where the domain's DNS is, that is, its nameservers. You add the records wherever the DNS is, which isn't necessarily where you bought the domain. For example, a domain registered at HiNet whose DNS is managed by another company gets its records at that company.
The records to add (type, name, value) are the ones listed on the card when you connect the domain, so this guide gives no fixed values. Use the record types exactly as the card shows them; if a name already has an old record, edit or delete it first, then add what the card lists.
When this guide applies
Only when the domain's nameservers are admns1.hinet.net / admns2.hinet.net (HiNet's DNS). If they belong to another company, add the records there.
Adding the records at HiNet
HiNet's site is in Chinese only; the button names below are as they appear there, with a translation in brackets.
- Go to domain.hinet.net, choose 「網域名稱登入」 (sign in with domain name) and enter the domain name and its 「網域密碼」 (domain password).
- On the domain's page, select 「更新DNS紀錄」 (update DNS records) next to 「HiNet DNS代管」 (HiNet DNS hosting).
- Read the 「DNS代管申請條款」 (DNS hosting terms) and select 「同意」 (agree).
- If you're asked whether HiNet should host the DNS, choose 「同意」 (agree), select 「確定」 (OK), then 「前往代管設定頁面」 (go to the hosting settings page).
- Add each record from the card and save. Use the record types the card shows; edit or delete old records with the same name first.
Things to know
- If another company manages the DNS now, selecting 「同意」 interrupts that company's service. In that case, add the records at the company that manages the DNS.
- You can't change DNS until your email is verified; select 「補發Email驗證信」 (resend verification email) and verify first.
- Free hosting allows up to 20 records.
How long it takes
Within about 24 hours.
These steps follow the FAQ (Q1–Q4) of HiNet domain registration.
Once the records are in, C Building checks them automatically. There's no need to come back and let us know.
