How to change nameservers at Chunghwa Telecom HiNet

The short version

Sign in to HiNet domain registration, open 「更新DNS主機」 (update DNS hosts) → 「編輯」 (edit), remove the HiNet hosts, enter ns1.cbuilding.net to ns4.cbuilding.net (at least two, no IP needed), and click 「送出」 (submit). Chunghwa Telecom says worldwide DNS sync takes 2 to 24 hours.

If your domain is registered with Chunghwa Telecom's HiNet domain service and you want C Building to manage its DNS, you replace the DNS hosts (nameservers) at HiNet with C Building's.

HiNet's site is in Chinese only. The steps follow two official sources, checked on October 15, 2026: the HiNet domain registration FAQ (DNS section) and Chunghwa Telecom's enterprise FAQ. They name the menu differently, 「更新DNS主機」 and 「修改 DNS 伺服器(Name Server)」. Both mean the same setting. We use the HiNet portal's own wording.

Step 1: start hosting in C Building first

Order matters: finish the setup in C Building first, then change the nameservers at HiNet. If you change the nameservers first, your old records stop working at once, and your website and email can go down.

  1. On the website's "Domains & publishing" page, or the "Domain" tab in the editor settings panel, find "Let C Building manage your DNS" and click "Let C Building manage DNS".
  2. Choose how to read your current records: "Detect automatically", "Import from Cloudflare" or "Paste a zone file".
  3. Under "Confirm the records to bring over", tick each record you want, use "Add a record" for any that are missing, then click "Start hosting".
  4. The screen shows "Last step: change the nameservers at your registrar" with four nameservers and a "Copy all" button.

C Building's four nameservers are ns1.cbuilding.net, ns2.cbuilding.net, ns3.cbuilding.net and ns4.cbuilding.net. After you start hosting, change the nameservers within 3 days. If you don't, this setup and the records you brought over are deleted, and you have to click "Start again". The full flow is in Let C Building manage your DNS.

Step 2: change the DNS hosts at HiNet

  1. Sign in to HiNet domain registration and open 「更新DNS主機」 (update DNS hosts).
  2. Click 「編輯」 (edit).
  3. Remove the default HiNet hosts and enter the external DNS hosts: ns1.cbuilding.net, ns2.cbuilding.net, ns3.cbuilding.net and ns4.cbuilding.net.
  4. Click 「送出」 (submit).

How many, and do I need IP addresses?

  • How many: Chunghwa Telecom's FAQ says at least two. It doesn't say how many are allowed at most. Enter all four; if only two fit, ns1 and ns2 are fine.
  • IP addresses: HiNet's FAQ says that when a DNS host is not under your own domain, no IP is needed, and the system clears any IP you enter. C Building's nameservers are under cbuilding.net, so enter the host names only.
  • .net hosts are fine: HiNet says DNS hosts under a .tw domain must first be registered with TWNIC, but hosts under other top-level domains (such as .net) need no IP data and can be added directly. cbuilding.net is a .net name.

If you used HiNet's free DNS

HiNet's free DNS hosting allows up to 20 records. Once the nameservers point to C Building, the records at HiNet stop applying, so bring every record you need over when you start hosting.

"Detect automatically" only finds records with common names (www, mail, email verification records and so on). If you have other subdomains, such as shop or api, add them yourself in the confirm step.

Also, if DNSSEC is on for the domain, turn it off before you change the nameservers.

How long does it take, and how do I check?

Chunghwa Telecom's FAQ says worldwide DNS sync takes anywhere from 2 to 24 hours, and the site may be briefly unreachable. C Building says it usually takes minutes to hours, and can take up to 48 hours. Once it takes effect, your website connects automatically.

  • When you're done at the registrar, go back to C Building and click "Check now".
  • When it says "The nameservers have changed. Your DNS is now managed by C Building.", you're done. Use "Manage DNS records" to edit records from then on.
  • If it says "The nameservers have not changed yet.", it also lists the nameservers the registry has on file, so you can spot a typo.
  • Filling in only some of the nameservers still works, but all four is more reliable.

If the nameservers are later changed away from C Building, record editing is paused. If they are not changed back within 14 days, hosting ends automatically. Before you switch, also read Before you change nameservers: email and DNSSEC.
