When you connect a domain, C Building first looks at where the domain's DNS is, that is, its nameservers. You add the records wherever the DNS is, which isn't necessarily where you bought the domain. For example, a domain bought at GoDaddy with its DNS on Cloudflare gets its records at Cloudflare.
The records to add (type, name, value) are the ones listed on the card when you connect the domain, so this guide gives no fixed values. Use the record types exactly as the card shows them; if a name already has an old record, edit or delete it first, then add what the card lists.
When this guide applies
Only when the domain's nameservers are nsXX.domaincontrol.com (GoDaddy's DNS). If they belong to another company, add the records there.
Adding the records at GoDaddy
- Sign in to your GoDaddy "Domain Portfolio".
- Select the domain to open "Domain Settings", then select "DNS".
- Start with "@": if "@" already has an A record (for example the parked page's 3.33.130.190 or 15.197.148.33), select "Edit" and change its value to the one on the card. Don't add a second one.
- Then "www": on a new GoDaddy domain, "www" is usually a CNAME pointing to "@", while the "www" on C Building's card is an A record. GoDaddy doesn't allow a CNAME and another record on the same name, so delete that www CNAME first, then add the A record from the card.
- For the card's other records (and the www record from the previous step), select "Add New Record", choose the type, enter the name and value, and keep the default TTL.
- Select "Save" or "Save All Records".
- If you're asked for a verification code (Domain Protection), enter the code you received by text message, authenticator app or email.
If an A record can't be edited
The domain is usually connected to another service (for example Squarespace). Find that service above the records table, select "Remove" next to it and confirm; you can then edit the records.
How long it takes
Usually within an hour, at most 48 hours.
These steps follow GoDaddy's help center: Add an A record, Add a CNAME record, Edit a CNAME record, Remove a connection from my domain.
Once the records are in, C Building checks them automatically. There's no need to come back and let us know.
