Bring Your WordPress Site to C Building

A lot of small businesses already have a website, and a lot of those websites run on WordPress. Often it was built years ago by someone who has moved on, and now it needs plugin updates, theme updates and security fixes that nobody wants to touch.

Starting over from scratch is a big ask when you have years of posts and pages. So C Building can bring a WordPress site over.

Two ways to import

Both start from Create website → Import WordPress, where C Building first creates a new project for the site and then asks for your files.

1. WordPress's XML export. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Tools → Export and download the XML file. Upload it to C Building, and your posts and pages are turned into a C Building website and its articles. This is the quickest way in, and it needs nothing installed on your old site.

2. A WPvivid backup. Install the WPvivid backup plugin on your old site, make a full backup and upload the backup file, or several files if the backup is split. C Building restores the whole site in a separate environment first and then converts it. It takes longer, and it brings over the most complete version of your site.

Keep the page open while your files upload. Once they are up, the import runs in the background.

What to check after importing

Some things on a WordPress site depend on outside services that you have to connect again. After importing, reconnect anything that needs payment or authorisation, such as:

• Payment gateways.
• Email and SMS services.
• Social logins.
• A CDN.
• Paid plugin licences.

Then go through your pages the way a customer would, fix what needs fixing on the page, and publish. If you want to keep your domain, connect it to the new site from the project's Domains page on a paid plan.

Because WordPress sites differ a lot. The XML export is simple and works for most content-led sites. A full backup is heavier, but captures more of how the site was built. You can choose what fits your site.

Do I need to know how WordPress works?

Only enough to download an export or make a backup, which your WordPress dashboard and the WPvivid plugin walk you through. After that, everything happens in C Building.

Will my old site keep running during the import?

Yes. Importing reads your files; it doesn't change your old site. You decide when to switch your domain over.
