Turn Your Existing Website Into One You Can Edit Yourself

Many businesses don't need a new website. They need the one they already have, but in a form they can actually change.

Maybe it was built on a platform you're leaving, by an agency you no longer work with, or in code nobody on your team can touch. The content is fine. The problem is that every edit means asking someone.

Build from an existing website is for that situation.

How it works

1. Enter the address of the website you want to bring over.
2. Confirm you own it, or that you are authorised to use it. You have to tick this before the rebuild can start.
3. Wait while the AI rebuilds it. C Building reads the site and rebuilds it as an editable C Building website. This takes about 20 to 60 minutes, depending on how big the site is. It runs in the background, so you can close the page.
4. Edit it your way. Once it is ready, open the editor and keep changing the site like any C Building site: tell the AI what to change, or click anything on the page and change it yourself.

Like building a new site with AI, a rebuild counts as one AI website generation.

Only for sites you own

This feature is for moving your own website, not for copying someone else's. Before a rebuild starts, you must confirm that you own the site or are authorised to use it.

The same principle applies across C Building: descriptions that ask the AI to copy a well-known brand's website exactly are refused. If you like how another site looks, describe the style instead.

Who can use it today

Build from an existing website is currently available only to accounts we have enabled. If you would like to use it for your business, contact us with the address of the site you want to move.

Why we built it this way

Why does a rebuild take so much longer than a new site?

A new site starts from a short description. A rebuild has to read every page of an existing site and reproduce it faithfully in a form you can edit. Bigger sites take longer.

Will my current website change?

No. The rebuild reads your site; it doesn't touch it. Your current site keeps running until you decide to move your domain to the new one.

Why do I have to confirm I own the site?

Because rebuilding a website means reproducing its content and design. That is only fair to do with your own site, or one you have permission to use.
