How AI Credits Work in C Building
Published · Updated · 3 min read
The short version
C Building counts two kinds of AI use. Building a new website with AI is one AI website generation, and each round of chatting with the AI is one AI edit; both reset on the 1st of every month. Editing the page yourself and starting from a template use no AI credits, and if you run out, you can upgrade or add pay-as-you-go AI credit.
On this page
AI is the most powerful part of C Building and also the part that costs something to run. So your plan includes a number of AI actions each month. This post explains exactly what counts, what doesn't, and what happens when you reach your limit.
What your account includes
Every account has a few allowances, set by your plan:
| Allowance | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Websites | The websites in your account. Sites in the recycle bin still count; deleting one permanently frees its place. |
| AI website generations (this month) | Building a new website with AI. Rebuilding an existing website also counts as one. |
| AI edits (this month) | Each round of chatting with the AI, in the editor or with the assistant in your console. |
| Storage | The total size of the images and videos in your media library. |
| Custom domains | How many of your own domains you can connect. |
The numbers for each plan are on the pricing page. For example, Basic includes 20 AI website generations and 100 AI edits a month, and Business includes 300 AI website generations and unlimited AI edits.
What counts, and what doesn't
Counts:
- Building a new website with AI: one AI website generation.
- Each round of chat asking the AI to change something: one AI edit.
- Long tasks the AI runs for you, such as copying a whole website, can count as several AI edits, depending on how much work they take.
Doesn't count:
- Clicking on the page and editing text, images or styles yourself.
- Starting a website from a template.
- Publishing, connecting a domain, writing articles by hand, or reading your form submissions.
That split is deliberate. The small, precise changes that make up most of a website's life are free to make yourself. You spend AI credits on the changes that are easier to describe than to do. We explain the thinking in what AI should do for you, and what you should do yourself.
When the month resets
AI website generations and AI edits reset on the 1st of every month.
When you run out
If you reach your plan's limit before the month ends, C Building tells you that this month's AI usage has reached your plan's limit. You then have three options:
- Keep editing by hand. Clicking and editing the page still works, and doesn't use AI edits.
- Upgrade your plan, from the account centre, for more AI each month.
- Add AI credit. The account centre also has an AI balance for pay-as-you-go use beyond your plan. Your plan's included AI is always used first; the balance covers what comes after. It doesn't raise your plan's own limits.
A limit on bursts
To prevent abuse, one account can make at most 20 AI actions within 10 minutes. If you hit it, you will see a message that AI actions are too frequent; wait a few minutes and carry on. Normal editing rarely comes close.
Shared projects
When you invite others to work on your website, their AI edits in that project count against your plan, as the owner. See edit together.
Why we built it this way
Why count chat rounds instead of words or time?
Because you can see a chat round. One request, one AI edit: you always know what an action will cost before you take it.
Why are manual edits free?
Because they should be the everyday way to change a website. Charging for them would push people back to asking the AI for every small fix.
What about the free plan?
The free plan includes a limited number of AI website generations and AI edits, with no time limit. We will publish the exact numbers on the pricing page once they are set.
Wrapping up
Two things count: building a site with AI, and each round of chat. Everything you do with your own hands is free. That's the whole model.
